Ne-Yo ‘thinks he speaks Spanish’ following Latin AMA performance

Ne-Yo is convinced he can speak Spanish following his performance with Pitbull at the Latin American Music Awards (AMAs) on Thursday (October 17, 2019).

The star, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, joined the rapper on stage for a performance of their track Me Quedare Contigo, which also features Latin American musician Lenier, and told Billboard how the unlikely collaboration came together.

“It’s a quality record. Shout out to Lenier, it was his record first. We basically took it and kind of remixed it, trying to bring it over here,” he shared on the Latin AMA red carpet. “Shout out to Pitbull for calling me and making me a part of it.

“We’re gonna get on stage tonight and we’re gonna bring the house down,” he enthused ahead of the performance.

When asked about how he got to grips with singing in Spanish, the Miss Independent star’s wife Crystal Renay Williams responded on his behalf, telling the publication: “He was really practicing for the video and the song and everything. He did his research. He did his homework. I’m proud of you…

“And now he thinks he speaks Spanish!” she joked.
