Biography

Prior to becoming an actor, Nicky Whelan appeared on the covers of various magazines geared towards Australian men, including FHM, Ralph, and Inside Sport. In her early 20s she also began hosting a popular drag racing night at a local track in her hometown of Victoria, Australia. The success of the drag racing night, as well as her multiple appearances on the covers of various sports magazines, led Whelan to twice be voted Australia's Sports Model of the Year, in 2001 and then again in 2007. By 2006, however, Whelan was seriously bit by the acting bug. It was during that year that she landed her breakthrough television role as Pepper Steiger on the popular Australian drama, "Neighbours." After a yearlong stint on "Neighbours," Whelan began setting her sights on America. Over the next three years, she guest starred on a number of popular American television shows, including the HBO sitcom "Entourage," the prime-time soap opera "Melrose Place," and the medical comedy "Scrubs," in which she had a recurring role as an Australian pre-med student. In 2011, Whelan also made the leap into feature film acting, playing the forbidden love interest of Owen Wilson's character in the sex comedy, "Hall Pass."
