Paco De Lucia laid to rest in Spanish hometown

Hundreds of mourners braved the rain on Saturday (01Mar14) to bid a final farewell to flamenco guitar master Paco De Lucia as he was laid to rest in his hometown of Algeciras, Spain. The musician suffered a fatal heart attack while on vacation in Mexico on Wednesday (26Feb14) and his body was flown back to Spain on Friday (28Feb14), where his casket was placed on display at Madrid’s National Auditorium music centre for fans to pay their respects.
His remains were transported to Algeciras later that night and a funeral Mass was held for De Lucia on Saturday at noon, when locals turned out in their droves to say goodbye.
The late star’s brother, Pepe de Lucia, honoured his sibling by performing an emotional flamenco tribute at the memorial service.
The 66 year old’s passing sent shockwaves through the music industry, with rockers Carlos Santana, Slash, Bryan Adams, Tom Morello and Bryan May all offering up tributes to De Lucia.
