Pauly "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio
In the same year that saw his fellow reality TV star Kate Gosselin's reverse-mullet become a popular Halloween wig, Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio made headlines of his own with "the Blowout. " The Rhode Island musician and his gravity-defying coif gained mainstream prominence in late 2009 when he appeared on the reality TV hit, "Jersey Shore" (MTV, 2009-12), a series that documented young Italian-Americans living together in a New Jersey beach house. Extremely controversial from the jump due to the cast's wild and crazy antics, the nonetheless entertaining shown angered various cultural groups that claimed the show and its rambunctious cast painted Italian-Americans in a negative light, particularly with their liberal use of the terms "Guido" and "Guidette." Amidst the controversy, "Jersey Shore" turned a handful of unknowns, none of whom were certainly afraid to be themselves in front of cameras, into celebrities. And in a house full of outrageous personalities, DelVecchio stood out from the rest of the cast by not only staying true to his roots, but applying handfuls of hair gel them, as well.
