Penelope Keith praises Queen for female-focused honours list

Veteran British actress Dame Penelope Keith has praised Queen Elizabeth II for including more women than ever before on her 2014 New Year’s Honours List. The Good Life star was made a dame when the titles were announced on Tuesday (31Dec13), along with fellow British acting veteran Angela Lansbury, while Lynda Bellingham and singer Katherine Jenkins both landed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) medals.
The list featured more women than ever, and Keith is thrilled to be part of such a female-focused year.
She tells Sky News, “I think it’s wonderful that there are more women this year… It matters in as much as it makes one realise that before women weren’t recognised. And now everyone can celebrate and say ‘Yippee! Yes that’s good’… I do think it’s a very, very good thing that so many women are recognised for the work they do.”
