Peter Scolari replaces Peter MacNicol as Emmy guest actor nominee

Peter Scolari has landed a late Emmy nomination for guest actor in a comedy after Peter MacNicol was stripped of the honour on Thursday (21Jul16).
The former Ally McBeal star was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series last week (ends17Jul16) for his portrayal of Jeff Kane, the politically influential uncle of Timothy Simons’ character Jonah, on Veep.
However, executives from the Television Academy, the organisation behind the awards, subsequently reviewed his nomination and discovered that he appeared in five instalments of the 10-episode season, which made him ineligible for the guest acting award.
The honour was rescinded and now Scolari has garnered a nomination for his role as Lena Dunham’s father, Tad Horvath, in Girls. The 60-year-old’s nomination is the only one for the show this year (16). He will compete against another Veep guest star, Martin Mull, Tracy Morgan and Larry David for Saturday Night Live, The Big Bang Theory’s Bob Newhart, and Bradley Whitford for Transparent.
The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony in Los Angeles in September (16).
