Initially, the Minions' language was comprised entirely of nonsense words, but with the second "Despicable Me" film, Coffin began borrowing words from French art and Indian cuisine, among other sources. For "Minions," the storyline suggested that the characters had been around since the dawn of time, and their language was tailored to include words from many different international languages.
