Prince Harry asks to be called ‘just Harry’ at first public event since moving to Canada

Prince Harry asked attendees at an event in Scotland to just call him Harry as he spoke at his first public engagement since moving to Canada.

The British royal and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will officially step down from their positions as senior royals at the end of March (2020), and start their new independent life on April 1st.

Prior to their withdrawal from royal duties, however, the couple will return to the U.K from Vancouver Island for six events, concluding with the Queen’s Commonwealth Service in London on March 9th.

And when Harry took the stage at a sustainable tourism summit at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Wednesday (February 26), host and journalist Ayesha Hazarika told delegates: “He’s made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry. So ladies and gentlemen, please give a big, warm, Scottish welcome to Harry.”

The decision from Harry, who is sixth in line to the British throne, comes after it was confirmed the couple will no longer use the word “Royal” in its branding.

Instead, they are set to reveal new names for their Sussex Royal Instagram account and foundation of the same name, after Queen Elizabeth II requested the change as her grandson and his wife opted to depart from their roles within the monarchy.
