Queen Elizabeth II attends first London Fashion Week show

Queen Elizabeth II stunned the fashion police on Tuesday (20Feb18) by attending her first ever London Fashion Week show alongside style queen Anna Wintour.
The British monarch held court in the front row next to Vogue U.S. editor-in-chief Wintour as they took in Autumn/Winter 2018 creations by emerging designer Richard Quinn.
The Queen wore a duck egg blue tweed dress and matching jacket with Swarovski crystals, designed by her longtime dressmaker Angela Kelly, as she shared pleasantries with Wintour and Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council.
The 91-year-old was invited to attend the show to present the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to Quinn, a fashion graduate of the prestigious London design school, Central Saint Martins.
In a post on the royal family’s official Twitter page, a representative explained: “The Award, initiated in recognition of the role the fashion industry plays in society & diplomacy, will be awarded annually to an emerging British fashion designer who shows talent and originality, whilst demonstrating value to the community and/or sustainable policies.”
The Queen’s surprise appearance took place a day after her pregnant granddaughter-in-law Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge hosted the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange event at Buckingham Palace on Monday (19Feb18) as part of London Fashion Week.
The bash, attended by guests including Wintour and supermodel Naomi Campbell, was held to showcase designs by emerging talent from across the Commonwealth.
