Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum Talk Tearjerkers, Tree-Murder, and More

Arriving just in time for Valentine’s Day is Sony Screen Gems’ romantic drama The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum as a happily married couple whose blissful union is torn asunder by a devastating car accident. When his wife Paige (McAdams) awakens from a coma, Leo (Tatum) is heartbroken to discover that she fails to recognize him, let alone recall that they’re married. But if you think Channing Tatum’s going to let a little thing like permanent, irreparable frontal-lobe damage stand in the way of true love, well my friend, you just don’t know Channing Tatum. He’ll do whatever it takes to win back his lady’s heart, even if it requires exhausting her pancreas, wearing silly hats, or facing off with the ever-menacing Sam Neill.

Despite the above scenario’s Mach-like ability to trigger instantaneous weeping, The Vow is not, as many have erroneously suspected, adapted from a Nicholas Sparks novel, but is in fact based on a true story. I sat down with McAdams and Tatum to talk about their experience translating that story to film, their favorite tearjerkers (Channing’s a sucker for The Biggest Loser), and more:

The Vow opens everywhere this Friday, February 10, 2012.
