Ralph Fiennes accepts Serbian citizenship

Actor Ralph Fiennes is now a Serbian citizen after accepting a passport from the country’s president.
The British-born actor was handed the passport by Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic in a ceremony in Belgrade on Sunday (24Sep17).
Ralph, 54, was granted the passport as a thank you for choosing to film two movies he has directed in the country.
According to the Press Association President Vucic told the actor, “We Serbs are happy to have you as a friend and now a fellow citizen.”
His 2011 Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus was mainly shot in Belgrade and he is currently filming The White Crow, a biopic of ballet star and Soviet defector Rudolf Nureyev in the city.
Another British star who is now a dual-national is Colin Firth, who has been approved for Italian citizenship.
Colin has been married to Italian film producer and director Livia Giuggioli since 1997, and told the BBC he had decided to apply for an Italian passport due to the political uncertainty created by Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
“We never really thought much about our different passports,” the Kingsman: The Golden Circle star said. “But now, with some of the uncertainty around, we thought it sensible that we should all get the same.”
His children with Livia, Luca, 16 and Matteo, 14, are already Italian citizens.
