Raphael Bob-Waksberg ‘writing new Lego movie’

Raphael Bob-Waksberg is attached to pen The Lego Movie Sequel.
Fans of the 2014 original were dismayed to learn the follow up has been pushed back from a 2018 opening to 2019, with many speculating all may not be well with the production. Now news outlet Variety is reporting that BoJack Horseman creator Raphael has been drafted in to deliver the script.
Original writers and directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will reportedly stay on as producers, but because they’re working on the new Han Solo, Star Wars spinoff movie, Warner Bros has decided they want a fresh take on the script.
Raphael won’t have trouble working with the cast, as BoJack Horseman’s leading voice actor Will Arnett also provides the voice of Batman in the Lego franchise. Will is even getting his own spinoff flick, The Lego Batman Movie, which is scheduled to hit cinemas in early 2017.
“I had a lot of fun being Batman, and given the chance I’d love to be Batman again, of course,” Will previously told Britain’s ShortList magazine. “What I liked about that was taking an iconic character and bending the rules a little bit. Everybody knows Batman, so to mess with the perception was fun,” he smiled.”
Franchise fans will also be able to get their Lego fix in the form of The Lego Ninjago Movie, also slated for a 2017 release.
The Lego Movie was one of 2014’s runaway successes with its humour appealing to children and adults alike.
As well as Will, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman all voiced characters. The film grossed more than $468.1 million (361.8 million) around the world.
