Monday mornings are the traditional time of week to rue all of the misguided, often alcohol-imbued antics in which we partook over the past few nights. And, if said antics just so happened to have caught a few innocent victims in their hellfire, it is also the time for heartfelt apologies. Reese Witherspoon joined the ranks of the regretfully hung-over community on Monday, following the spat she had with an Atlanta police officer who arrested her husband and manager Jim Toth for driving under the influence.
On Friday night, Toth was pulled over for reckless driving and was ordered to perform a sobriety test. Witherspoon, a passenger in the automobile, got out of the car and began antagonizing the arresting police officer with comments like, “Do you know my name? … You’re about to find out who I am … You are going to be on national news.”
But in the cold light of day, Witherspoon has seen the error in her ways. The Mud star has released an apology for her aforementioned conduct, chalking her flinch-inducing comments up to that all-too-familiar liquid demon:
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
