Biography

Richard Ward was an actor who was no stranger to being featured in numerous film roles throughout his career. Ward began his acting career appearing in various films, such as the dramatic adaptation "Black Like Me" (1964) with John Whitmore, the Ivan Dixon drama "Nothing But a Man" (1964) and the Hampton Clanton dramatic adaptation "The Cool World" (1964). He also appeared in "The Learning Tree" (1969) with Kyle Johnson, the fantasy "Brother John" (1971) with Sidney Poitier and "Across 110th Street" (1972). His work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "Starsky and Hutch" (1974-75). He also had roles in film during these years, including roles in the comedy "For Pete's Sake" (1974) with Barbra Streisand and "Mandingo" (1975) with James Mason. He also played parts in television during these years, including roles in "Good Times" (1973-79) and "Beacon Hill" (1975-76). Ward took on film roles in more recent years, appearing in "Death Collector" (1976), the Steve Martin comedy "The Jerk" (1979) and the drama "Brubaker" (1980) with Robert Redford. He also was featured in the TV movie "Contract on Cherry Street" (1977-78). He held additional roles in television including a part on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" (1975-77). Ward last appeared in "The Bride in Black" (1990-91).
