Biography

Richard Whiting was a vibrant source of comedy on the big screen, bringing laughter and joy to many audiences over the course of his Hollywood career. Whiting marked his early career with roles in "Starting Over" (1979), the drama "Ordinary People" (1980) with Donald Sutherland and "Revenge of the Gray Gang" (NBC, 1981-82). Whiting began to focus on film after appearing in the Jack Lemmon dramatic adaptation "Missing" (1982), "Tootsie" (1982) and "Zelig" (1983). He also appeared in the comedy "Sweet Liberty" (1986) with Alan Alda, the Stockard Channing dramatic adaptation "Six Degrees of Separation" (1993) and the Tim Robbins comedy "The Hudsucker Proxy" (1994). Whiting's music was most recently featured in the Mike Myers blockbuster animated sequel "Shrek the Third" (2007). Whiting passed away in April 1994 at the age of 85.
