Rick Allen: ‘Def Leppard don’t need Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honour’

Def Leppard have no interest in becoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame fixtures, according to drummer Rick Allen.
The rocker insists the adulation and support of fans is enough, and he and his bandmates “don’t need a board of directors” to decide whether they should be inducted into music’s greatest museum.
“Our fans have proved to us, they’ve shown to us over the years, time and time again, that they are so behind this band, and that, to me, is… all that matters,” Allen told rock radio presenter Eddie Trunk.
The British group has been eligible for Hall of Fame voting since 2004.
“I think there is a certain amount of time lag, and depending on who is on the board deciding who goes through or not…,” the drummer added. “We don’t know the circumstances, we don’t know the inner workings of how they come to certain decisions, and I don’t wanna assume anything.”
Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott previously suggested the band would snub a Hall of Fame invite, telling HuffPost Live in 2015, “We’ve kind of all decided that, even if we get asked, we’re just gonna politely refuse, like the Sex Pistols did… unless there was some kind of online campaign by our fans, ’cause they were annoyed by us.”
Guitarist Phil Collen added, “I don’t care, really… (It’s like), ‘Whatever’. The way I look at it, I’ve got two diamond albums sitting on my mantlepiece – that’s ten times platinum; I’ve got two diamond albums. That means the fans went out and bought it, so that means a lot more to me, I think.”
Def Leppard were overlooked for induction again this year – instead, Dire Straits, The Cars, the Moody Blues, Bon Jovi, and Nina Simone will be added to the Hall of Fame in April.
