Forget diet programs, just join a dancing competition! Ricki Lake — who will perform her dancing debut in the new season of Dancing With the Stars tonight on ABC — claims the show’s grueling dance workouts are already helping her to shed away the pounds — and the inches. The star hopes this weight loss trend continues throughout the course of the season and states, “I’m hoping to pull a Kirstie Alley,” and adds, “Every part of my body hurts. … When I went in for a costume fitting, I’ve lost 8 ½ inches. Three inches in my waist. Three in my hips. Over an inch in my thighs and another inch and a half on my arms. It’s crazy.” Lake hasn’t been weighing herself, but believes she gained 15 pounds since meeting her fiancé, Christian Evans, and it looks like those excess inches are melting away. She goes on to say, “I have two sizes of Lucky Brand jeans: 8 and 6. Usually I wear the 8 because they are more comfortable but now even the 6 is too big. They used to be tight.” Good for her!
Besides the four to five hour workouts, Ricki makes sure she’s giving her body the proper nourishment it needs. A typical day starts off with oatmeal or an egg white and veggie omelette for breakfast, gazpacho and a chicken breast for lunch, and turkey meatloaf and salad for dinner, along with “a bit of mashed potatoes.” She even allows herself to have a glass of wine and even two low fat chocolate chip cookies when she has a sweet tooth. Her biggest food weakness: bread. She states, “That is absolutely the hardest thing to give up. Pizza is my favorite.” Can’t blame her for that one.
Nevertheless, she appears to be fighting those cravings and not only looks great, but feels great as well. Lake confesses, “Having my costumes taken in is the best feeling in the world. I’m a little self conscious of my arms and my back fat but they’re trimming down really quickly. So I think the longer I’m in the competition, the better I’ll feel about my body.” Let’s hope the judges and voters deem her a worthy opponent, so she can stick around and find out. She seems to be winning the battle of the bulge, but will she be able to win the battle of the ballroom?
