Ricky Gervais is no stranger to stirring up controversy, especially when it comes to his Golden Globe hosting duties, but he’s got his eye on a much bigger prize this year — the Oscars. According to Access Hollywood, the British comedian wants to make a deal with the Hollywood “powers that be” and has offered to host both the Golden Globes and the Oscars next year for a discounted price.

As previously reported, the Oscars are now in search of a new host after Eddie Murphy backed out of the job on Wednesday, following Brett Ratner‘s departure. So now the slot is open and Gervais couldn’t think of a better person for the job than himself. When asked about his thoughts on the Academy Awards no longer having a host, Gervais responded, “I’ll do that as well. I’ll be in town anyway for the Globes.” And being the generous man that he is, he’d even be willing to accept a discounted price for the double hosting duty. “I can knock off 20 percent. Two for one deal. I’ll just stay up there,” he said.

Gervais hasn’t officially signed on to host the Globes yet, but the famous funnyman seems to think it’s potentially headed that way, stating, “They haven’t asked me officially yet, and I don’t know whether I’d say yes. It’s very tempting. It’s tempting [because] for three hours, I’m the most feared man in LA, so that’s nice.” Looks like someone has a bit of a God-complex.

In all honesty, I’m not really that thrilled with the idea of Gervais hosting the Oscars. Sure, he’s good for a few inappropriate laughs and awkward moments at the Golden Globes, but should his wry humor really be allowed at something as prestigious as the Academy Awards? I doubt it would go over very well, so I’m sticking to my original thought that Neil Patrick Harris and Betty White should tag team the position. An unbeatable combo if there ever was one — come on people, let’s make this happen!
