How great was Ricky Gervais on Sunday right? Pretty great I thought! And that swipe he took at the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press? Superb hatred with a glimmer of truth-based humor is always the best! Not even watching Jennifer Lopez fall into a tub full of placenta in The Back-Up Plan was that enjoyable! Yes, I thought Gervais did an excellent job. It’s sad he’s gone back to just making fun of his friends on The Ricky Gervais Show for which hotel they stayed at, instead of continuing to rip celebrities apart like they’re Twizzlers.
It’s especially sad that not even a full forty-eight hours after the award ceremony comes the news that Ricky Gervais will not host next year’s Golden Globes. While walking around in NYC’s excellent weather today, Gervais told TMZ that twice was enough and even though some people thought he went too far, he was happy his fellow comedians appreciated his jabs.
There was some controversy about whether or not Gervais was prevented from going onstage for an hour in the middle of the ceremony as punishment for his words targeting Robert Downey Jr. and the HFPA President. However, Gervais released a statement this morning that said, “I did every single introduction I meant to. There just happened to be a long gap. This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for.” So no, it appears he wasn’t yanked off stage. But that’s not for a lack of effort by Jane Fonda‘s nipple!
