Biography

Canadian actor Robert Ayres made a name for himself on the big screen. Ayres's early acting career consisted of roles in various films, such as the crime adaptation "Prize of Gold" (1955) with Richard Widmark, "It's Never Too Late" (1956) with Phyllis Calvert and the dramatic adaptation "The Story of Esther Costello" (1957) with Joan Crawford. He also appeared in the drama "Time Lock" (1957) with Robert Beatty and the Kenneth More dramatic adaptation "A Night to Remember" (1958). He kept working in film throughout the fifties and the sixties, starring in the Marshall Thompson horror feature "First Man in Space" (1959), "John Paul Jones" (1959) and the comedy "The Road to Hong Kong" (1962) with Bing Crosby. He also worked in television around this time, including a part on "The Cheaters" (1960-61). Ayres was most recently credited in "Fog" (CBS, 1980-81). Ayres had a number of different projects under his belt in the sixties through the seventies, including "The Heroes of Telemark" (1965) starring Kirk Douglas, "Battle Beneath the Earth" (1967) starring Kerwin Mathews and "Mr. Sycamore" (1974). His credits also expanded to "The Black Hole" with Maximilian Schell (1979). Ayres passed away in November 1968 at the age of 54.
