The cast of That Thing You Do! reunited for a live performance on Tuesday (25Apr17), over 20 years after the hit film’s release.

Johnathon Schaech, Ethan Embry, and Tom Everett Scott, who portrayed fictional 1960s pop band The Wonders in Tom Hanks’ feature film directorial debut, took the stage at The Roxy in Los Angeles to perform the film’s title song.

“When we reunion, we reunion hard,” Embry tweeted along with a photo of himself with his co-stars.
“The Oneders (sic) showed LA no mercy last night. Thanks for a wicked fun night,” Scott tweeted.

Written and directed by Hanks, the 1996 comedy/drama also features Steve Zahn as one of the group’s members. Though Zahn did not attend the event, he presence was still felt – the cast posed for a hilarious photo with an image of the actor’s face taped to a fourth person.

The performance was filmed for the weekly GD Comedy Jam, which airs on the Comedy Central Network.

The show’s host, Josh Adam Meyers, also took to Twitter to share his excitement following the reunion.

“I’ve had a smile on my face all day because of how many people telling me how important That Thing You Do was to them,” Meyers wrote. “Last Night was magic.”

The special concert moment came on the eve of Jonathan Demme’s death. The Oscar winner, who directed Hanks in Philadelphia, makes a cameo appearance in That Thing You Do as Major Motion Picture Director. He also produced the film.

After retweeting author Stephen King’s tribute to Demme, Schaech shared his own grief following the news the 73-year-old had lost his battle with cancer.

The actor wrote: “He called after the 1st day of filmin #thatthingyoudo told me And all #TheWonders that night we were doing great #RIPJonathanDemme.”
