Roy Haynes worked in a variety of genres and built up a diverse and reputable career. Haynes marked his early career with roles in "Celebrating a Jazz Master: Thelonious Sphere Monk" (1986-87), "Celebrating Bird: The Triumph of Charlie Parker" (1988-89) and the Art Blakey documentary "Art Blakey: The Jazz Messenger" (1989). In the years following, Haynes appeared in "Sarah Vaughan: The Divine One" (1990-91), "The Late Show With David Letterman" (1993-2015) and the dramatic adaptation "The Preacher's Wife" (1996) with Denzel Washington. He also appeared in "A Panther in Africa" (2004-05). More recently, Haynes appeared in "The Jazz Baroness" (2009-2010).
