Russell Brand Kicked Out of Japan

Russell BrandSorry, Japan. Your country is denying you the presence of one Russell Brand thanks to his heaps of past transgressions against the law. The comedian attempted to visit his wifey, Katy Perry, this weekend as she is performing in Tokyo on Monday and Tuesday, but he didn’t make it past customs.

Apparently, he has a few rather sizable 10-year-old charges on his record that forced Japanese officials to send him packing. I’m not sure why 10 years of a clean record and the accountability of being mega-famous wasn’t enough to clear his name for a wee visit, but I guess rules are rules even if you’re a celebrity…in Japan. Remember, we don’t live by those rules here in the States, what with people like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan serving less time in prison than it takes to watch the Lord of The Rings Trilogy, it’s no wonder this story comes as a bit of a shock. Celebrities don’t have to worry about consequences or laws, right? Wrong (in other countries).

Well, at least Brand was a good sport about it. Unlike his wife, who tweeted melodramatically (though we don’t necessarily blame her), “So … my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place #tokyodreamscrushed,” Russell kept it light. But he’s a comedian, so of course he did. Here’s a little sample of what he had to say (accompanied by photos like this):

Planning escape from Japanese custody. It’s bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick

Stockholm syndrome kicking in. Just asked my guard out for (vegetarian) sushi. He giggled.

Alcatraz! Shawshank Redemption! And now this! Ah, sweet blue bird of freedom!

Well, I guess if you’re going to take to Twitter to proclaim injustice, the best way to do it is with an intense sense of humor. Plus, it seems that the situation wasn’t all that dire. Why else would they let him just sit there taking TwitPics for hours? After the slap on the wrist and the trip back home, Russel is stuck waiting for the measly few days until Perry returns to the U.S. where she’ll continue her tour across the country. So, really, it’s all okay, guys.
