Sally Farmiloe campaigning for stricter hospital orders

British actress Sally Farmiloe is campaigning for stricter controls on hospital ‘Do No Resuscitate’ (DNR) orders after accusing doctors of deciding not to revive her if her heart failed. The Howard’s Way actress has terminal liver and bone cancer and was admitted to a hospital in Chelsea, London in October (13).
She was later shocked to discover a DNR order in her medical records – which she did not authorise – decreeing that if her heart failed, doctors would not attempt to revive her.
Farmiloe writes in Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, “Just three months ago, when I was lying in a hospital bed, barely conscious, hallucinating and not lucid enough to reason – let alone consent to ending my life – a group of well-meaning medics decided, should my heart fail, I would be too weak to undergo treatment to revive me.
“While terribly distressing, this would have been acceptable had doctors consulted my beloved daughter Jade, before making this momentous decision. Had she been present, she would have told them that I wanted to fight to the bitter end.
“Instead, the hospital discussed the matter with one of my in-laws. Someone who was not even a blood relative was asked to make the decision about whether or not to end my life, which was not fair.”
Farmiloe has now rescinded the order and is working to tighten the rules regarding DNR orders.
