Salma Hayek celebrates longtime friend Antonio Banderas following Oscar nomination

Salma Hayek is thrilled her close friend and collaborator Antonio Banderas has been honored with his first Academy Award nomination.

The actress, who has co-starred with the Spaniard in six films, took to Instagram on Monday (January 13, 2020) following news he had been recognized in the Best Actor category for Pedro Almodovar’s Pain and Glory.

In the post, Hayek celebrated their more than two decades of friendship alongside an image of the two in their 1995 film Desperado.

“After 20 years of knowing you, it’s great to see that you’re still thriving, congratulations on your Oscar nomination @antoniobanderas,” she wrote.

Banderas also marked the occasion on social media, noting he is proud to represent his nation at the ceremony.

“Very happy for the nominations,” he posted alongside a slideshow of him and Almodovar. “This is very important to me, for Spanish cinema and for all Spanish language cinema. Thank you so much for your kind words!”

The production, in which Banderas stars as a filmmaker reflecting on his life choices, based on Almodovar himself, is also nominated in the Best International Feature Film category.
