Sarah Connolly & Steven Osborne land top classical awards

Sarah Connolly and pianist Steven Osborne were to toast of the classical music world on Tuesday (14May13) after picking up top prizes at the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards in Britain. Mezzo-soprano Connolly was named the winner of the Silver Lyre trophy for Best Solo Singer, while Osborne landed the award for Best Instrumentalist.
Kirill Karabits, the principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, won the Conducting Award. Other winners included composers Gerald Barry and Rebecca Saunders and the Birmingham Opera Company’s world premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Mittwoch aus Licht (Wednesday from Light).
