Sarah Jones’ father begs authorities not to release Randall Miller

The father of late camera assistant Sarah Jones has written to authorities in Georgia asking them not to grant early release to jailed Midnight Rider director Randall Miller.
Miller was handed a two-year jail sentence in March (15) after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass stemming from the death of 27 year old Jones. She was hit by a train while shooting footage for Miller’s now-abandoned Allman Brothers biopic, Midnight Rider, on railroad tracks in Wayne County, Georgia in 2014.
However, Miller’s legal team recently filed a request for early release, citing good behaviour and health issues, but a hearing into the matter on 23 December (15) was called off to allow both prosecutors and the defence attorney to present their arguments to a judge.
It has now emerged that Jones’ father Richard has written to the judge overseeing the case and to Wayne County Sheriff John Carter calling for Miller to serve his full sentence.
The letter, which has been posted online, reads, “It is a difficult task to put into words how much Sarah’s death has forever changed our lives… As much as I would like to impress upon you what we all lost, I will get to the point of my letter. I truly seek healing for all involved. There is, however, a need for accountability. It is, after all, apparent that Mr. Miller… displayed gross negligence and a reckless disregard for the safety of (the) cast and crew. Thus the guilty pleas for involuntary manslaughter. Mr. Miller willingly entered into the agreement for 8 years’ probation and to serve 2 years in jail… There is a need to maintain a strong message to the film industry that those in charge of their cast and crew will be held responsible for their safety… That such reckless disregard for safety will not be tolerated. The motion states that Mr. Miller’s family and friends miss him. I can understand and relate to this. But there is a difference. Mr. Miller will return home. Sarah never will…”
A decision on whether to release Miller has yet to be made.
