Biography

British by birth, Simon Russell Beale built his entertainment career as an actor in many successful Hollywood movies. In 2001, he co-starred with Diana Rigg in "Humble Boy." In 2003, he starred as a bumbling philosopher in Tom Stoppard's "Jumpers," for which he received a Tony nomination. Beale began his acting career in film, appearing in such titles as "Orlando" (1993), "Persuasion" (1995) with Amanda Root and the Richard Attenborough dramatic adaptation "Hamlet" (1996). He also was featured in the miniseries "A Dance to the Music of Time" (1997-98). He also appeared in the TV movie "Alice in Wonderland" (NBC, 1998-99). His film career continued throughout the nineties and the early 2000s in productions like "An Ideal Husband" (1999) and the horror flick "The Gathering" (2003) with Christina Ricci. He also appeared in the TV special "John & Abigail Adams" (PBS, 2005-06). His work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "The Young Visiters" (BBC, 2004-05). More recently, he continued to act in the dramatic adaptation "My Week With Marilyn" (2011) with Michelle Williams and "The Deep Blue Sea" (2012). He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "Penny Dreadful" (Showtime, 2013-). He also had a part in the TV miniseries "The Hollow Crown" (2012-). Beale most recently acted in the James Corden smash hit comedic fantasy "Into the Woods" (2014).
