Source Awards move to Miami

The 2001 Source Hip-Hop Music Awards will be taped in Miami Beach, Fla., in August, the Associated Press reports. Controversy surrounded last year’s Source Awards in Los Angeles when a fight broke out during the show’s taping. To ensure that this year’s event will be less problematic, organizers have asked the Fruit of Islam, affiliated with the Nation of Islam, to provide security. According to The Source Magazine, tickets will be by invitation only, and the audience will be limited to 1,500 people.

Nominations for the 2001 Source Hip-Hop Music Awards were announced Monday in New York. Eminem, OutKast and Snoop Dogg received multiple nominations, including album of the year and video of the year. LL Cool J will be awarded a lifetime achievement award during the ceremony. The awards will air on UPN August 28 at 8 p.m.
