The Doubt star, who portrays late U.S. culinary queen Julia Child in new film Julie & Julia, reveals her mum only ever whipped up quick meals during her childhood and it was only when she was invited to a friend’s house for dinner that she was introduced to the vegetable.
She tells WENN, “My mother’s motto was if it’s not done in 20 minutes it’s not dinner. I remember when I was 10 going up to a little girl’s house up the street. She and her mother were sitting at the table and they were doing something to big white tennis balls. I said, ‘what are you doing?’ They said they were making mashed potatoes. I said what do you mean? They were potatoes, killer potatoes; I’d never seen a potato (before that day).”.
