Longtime British soap star Sue Johnston has joined the cast of Downton Abbey as a maid to Dame Maggie Smith’s character the Dowager Countess. Brassed Off actress Johnston, who has appeared in hit U.K. shows The Royle Family, Coronation Street and Brookside, will play Denker in the fifth season of the show, opposite fellow newcomers Richard E Grant, Anna Chancellor and Rade Sherbedgia.
The hit period drama returns to British TV later this year (14).
