Supermodel Sims dies

The beauty passed away on Saturday (01Aug09) after a long battle with cancer, according to her son Bob Findlay.

Sims has been credited with breaking down racial boundaries in modeling by appearing as the first black cover model of U.S. magazine Ladies’ Home Journal in 1968.

She turned down the starring role in 1973’s Cleopatra Jones and devoted herself to a number of beauty businesses, including her own wig venture.

Sims also penned several books geared toward black women’s success including All About Health and Beauty for the Black Woman.
