Susan Sarandon accuses American government of phone-tapping

The Thelma & Louise star became convinced she was under surveillance after seeing a file obtained through Freedom of Information requests and fears this was the reason she was denied a security clearance for a recent visit to The White House.

Sarandon made the revelation during a question and answer session at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Sunday (22Apr12), telling the audience, “We’re under surveillance. I’ve had my phone tapped. I was denied a security clearance to go to the White House and I don’t know why.”

The actress has been a supporter of human right campaigns and liberal causes for over three decades, and was a vocal opponent of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

She also addressed protesters during the Occupy Wall Street campaign earlier this year (12).
