Sustainable Celebs We Stan: Selena Gomez

Hey, Hollywooders! What’s Good in the ‘Wood?

What if we told you it was easy to be green? Hollywood celebs are proving it’s simple by dedicating their time and money to create a more eco-friendly world.

From environmental charities and eco-friendly brands to hardcore activism, we absolutely LOVE to see this energy in Hollywood. The week’s sustainable celeb spotlight goes to the one and only Selena Gomez.

As if she wasn’t busy enough shooting the Hulu show, Only Murderers in the Building, Selena Gomez has also been running a beauty brand for the last year (one of several sustainable celeb beauty routines you can try) and is committed to living a sustainable lifestyle. We are really convinced that this queen can do it all.

Selena has been living a sustainable lifestyle for years and is one of the many celebs to start their own makeup brand. So what sets Selena Gomez’s brand apart from the rest of Hollywood? It is inclusive, completely vegan friendly and cruelty free.

Selena Gomez is truly a “Rare Beauty”

Singer-songwriter and actress, Selena Gomez launched her vegan beauty line, Rare Beauty in September of 2020 and according to the brands website, Rare Beauty’s mission is to “promote self-acceptance and embrace inclusivity”, all while creating an animal friendly product:

“Our vision is to create a safe, welcoming space in beauty—and beyond—that supports mental well-being across age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, cultural background, physical or mental ability, and perspective.”

When Rare Beauty launched, Selena Gomez posted a photoshop free collage of models using the product, and the result was inclusiveness magic. If there’s one thing beauty brands need, its representation.

Selena Gomez makes a “Rare Impact”

After launching Rare Beauty in September of 2020, Selena Gomez took it a step further and established The Rare Impact Fund as a part of her beauty brand. The fund serves as a resource for those struggling with mental health. Selena herself has struggled with mental health, but it’s something she is constantly working on, and hopes to help others too.

Rare Beauty donates 1% of annual sales to the Rare Impact Fund, and the money goes towards increasing mental health services to people particularly in underserved communities. Last year, Selena Gomez pledged that over the next ten years, The Rare Impact Fund will raise $100 million dollars to help address gaps in mental health services. According to Forbes, if the company is able to complete this goal, it will be one of the “largest known funds for mental health straight from a corporate identity.”

On July 22nd, Selena Gomez celebrated her birthday, and chose to give back even more in honor of this special day. Rare Beauty’s encouraged people to donate on GoFundMe, and within a week, people have already donated over $250,000 of the $400,000 goal.

The response from users on Twitter was overwhelming, and celebrated Selena’s birthday by donating.

Not only does Rare Beauty have a powerful mission, but people online have been raving about how great the actual product is. Selena even responded to some fans

This person has been a “Selenator” for over ten years, and honestly same, girl.

#ThankYouSelena should be a trending hashtag today and every day.

Yet another positive review from a fan! Selena Gomez can do no wrong.

We absolutely love to see celebrities using their platform to make a positive change, and that is exactly what Selena Gomez is doing. If you want to try her Rare Beauty makeup or simply donate to the Rare Impact Fund here.
