Taika Waititi directs Coca-Cola’s Christmas advert

Taika Waititi has directed a heart-warming Coca-Cola Christmas advert that follows one man’s quest to get his daughter’s letter to Santa.

In the Jojo Rabbit filmmaker’s ad, which carries the tagline, “This Christmas, give something only you can give,” and debuted on Tuesday (November 10, 2020), a father leaves his daughter to go to work on an offshore wind farm – but promises her he’ll pass her letter on to Santa.

After taking a sip of Coke and missing the boat he was supposed to pass the letter on to, he treks across the world to the North Pole to deliver the letter, only to discover his daughter has just asked for him to be home for Christmas – a wish granted thanks to Santa and a helpful Coca-Cola truck.

In a statement, Kris Robbens, marketing director at Coca-Cola Great Britain tells Ad Week magazine: “Our new advert reflects the real magic of Christmas-our greater appreciation for loved ones, a sense of community and our need to be present with each other this Christmas, above all else.

The promotional film will be screened in 92 countries across the world, and will begin airing from December (2020). However, Coca-Cola chiefs have canceled their traditional festive truck tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
