Taylor Swift has never been one to keep quiet about her past relationships. In fact, they seem to serve as a source of inspiration for her songwriting (i.e. Dear John was in reference to her break up with John Mayer). For her, art really does imitate her real life — and it looks like her newest album will be equally as telling. In an interview with Vogue, Swift reveals that a “not recent” breakup will serve to be the source of inspiration for the songs on her upcoming album. Her exes had better beware.
Swift described the relationship as causing “absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak.” Who is the alleged heartbreaker? She doesn’t specifically say, but I have a feeling the songs will be in reference to Jake Gyllenhaal, who broke up with her around Christmas 2010. It’s been a while since then and perhaps she’s had some mystery man we don’t know about, but that split really seemed to hit her hard. It’s hard to beleive she wouldn’t dedicate at least a song or two in recognition of that heartache. And as if to back up that point, Swift explained to the magazine, “The only way that I can feel better about myself—pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone—is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity.”
The young singer also goes on to talk about her relationship red flags when it comes to dating a guy and they’re actually pretty interesting. Swift said, “If someone doesn’t seem to want to get to know me as a person but instead seems to have kind of bought into the whole idea of me and he approves of my Wikipedia page? And falls in love based on zero hours spent with me? That’s maybe something to be aware of. That will fade fast. You can’t be in love with a Google search.” The girl makes a good point. She went on to say, “If you need to put me down a lot in order to level the playing field…That won’t work either,” adding, “Also, I can’t deal with someone who’s obsessed with privacy.”
All-in-all not a bad interview for T-Swift. As always, she seems pretty well grounded and uncorrupted by fame and fortune, which is impressive in and of itself. Plus, she also seems confident in the type of man she’s looking for and clearly isn’t afraid to voice her true feelings about it. It’s no wonder she was named last year’s Entertainer of the Year! Now if we can just figure out (for sure) who the heartbreaker is that inspired her upcoming album…
