Ashton Kutcher edited a special “online only” issue for Details magazine and while some would call that ambitious, it may actually be a federal crime. The online issue conveniently recommended several of products that Kutcher has investments in and according to the assistant Federal Trade Commission director Richard Cleland, “If you’re out there promoting individual products that you have a specific investment in, it needs to be disclosed… If you have a significant economic investment that is not otherwise apparent, that may potentially affect the credibility of your endorsement.” Details claims there was some disclosure since a line in the intro says Kutcher “puts his money where his mouth is, backing many of the companies he champions here.” While that sounds more than a little obscure to be that helpful, no big action has been taken against the actor yet, although the FTC seems eager to show it’s serious about enforcing online disclosure, so we’ll have to see what repercussions lie in store for our self-promoting friend. See Ashton, this is why you shouldn’t be having your cake and promoting it too. – Gawker
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Just yesterday people were nominating Gwyneth Paltrow for saint-hood after supposedly delaying a woman from getting to work at the Twin Towers on 9/11, but now it seems that angelic crown of hers is a little tilted. An insider claims that when a stranger gave Paltrow’s housekeeper a lift from a bus stop to her home, the actress became upset with the driver saying “Please don’t give my maid a ride again,” since she didn’t want strangers to know where she lived. Paltrow’s rep denies she got upset over the situation saying “Her housekeeper has a car, and Gwyneth would never say something like that.” – US
Danny DeVito has finally earned himself a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The actor celebrated his 40th anniversary in show business by being granted with his very own star, making his the 2,445th star to grace the legendary sidewalk. DeVito joked during the ceremony saying, “The question is, do I get to take this home or do we leave it here? Or do I move into this store over here, and every day I come and polish it?” Oh Danny, it’s always sunny when you’re around. Congrats! – E!
