The Oldest Woman Alive Shares Her Secret To Living 117 Years (And It’s Pretty Darn Weird)

Emma Morano is the oldest living woman at 117 years old. She was born on November 29, 1899 and is believed to be the only person alive who has lived through three centuries. What are her secrets?

Well, the cheerful senior, who is too blind to watch TV and mostly deaf, credited brandy, getting to bed early and being single as the secret behind a long life. When crowned the oldest person alive, she simply told The Independent, “My word, I’m as old as the hills”

In 1938, after the death of her infant child, Morano left a violently abusive husband and never looked back. She’s been single ever since and credits it as one of the reasons she’s lived so long. “[I] didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she said.

Morano also has some pretty strange dietary habits. She doesn’t really watch what she eats but has been eating two raw eggs and one cooked egg every day since she was 20 years old. She also stays away from meat for fear of getting cancer.

“I eat two eggs a day, and that’s it. And cookies. I don’t eat much because I have no teeth,” she said.

Morano may be mostly deaf and vision-impared to the extent that she can’t watch TV, but she’s alert as ever. On her birthday, she even though about having a slice of cake, but figured the sugar would make her feel a bit sick.

“Last time I ate a little, but then I did not feel good,” she said.

Live it up girl! You only live once.
