There’s no Fine Line between Harry Styles and activism

Welcome back to Shoutout Sunday Celebrity Activist, where we share celebs doing HollyGOOD in their communities and all around the globe.

Last week we covered FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden and her first act as First Lady.

For this week’s HollyGOOD news: We’re shouting out Harry Styles, Golden boy and creator of the popular slogan “TPWK” —Treat People With Kindness.

Tomorrow, February 1st, is Harry’s birthday and we wanted to show why we love him not only for his amazing music, but also for being an activist in Hollywood.

Remember his December cover of Vogue, where he wore the famous dress? Styles received both praise and backlash for wearing said dress. Liam Payne, his former One Direction bandmate, actually defended his fashion choice against the critics. Styles even clapped back by mocking a comment made by conservative political pundit Candace Owens.

Harry told Vogue “Now I’ll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don’t feel crazy wearing it. I think if you get something that you feel amazing in, it’s like a superhero outfit”. We like the way you think Harry. Why can’t people just dress how they want? Girls wear suits, so why can’t boys wear dresses?

Harry Styles has been very vocal about his support to the LGBTQ+ community since his early days in One Direction. Harry wore a Michael Sam (first openly gay man drafted into the NFL) Rams jersey during a concert in St. Louis back in 2014.

Even Sam tweeted his gratitude for Harry’s support:

During Harry’s first solo tour, Harry Styles: Live on Tour, he showed his support to the LGBTQ+ community in various ways. He released limited-edition pride merch, with profits going to GLSEN, an organization that creates a better world for LGBTQ students. He helped a fan come out to her mother during a show. According to Rolling Stone, Styles frequently waved the pride, bi, and trans flags, along with the Black Lives Matter flag on his tour. Styles told Rolling Stone “I want to make people feel comfortable being whatever they want to be”.

According to Out, Styles said this at a Stockholm show: “I love every single one of you. If you are black, if you are white. If you are gay, if you are straight, if you are transgender. Whoever you are, whoever you want to be. I support you. I love every single one of you.”

Last year, Harry showed his support to COVID-19 relief by releasing merch that read “Stay Home. Stay Safe. Protect Each Other.” 100% of the profits were donated to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.

Harry Styles’ motto is Treat People With Kindness and we concur. For 2021, Styles gave us a New Year's Day treat with the music video for his song Treat People With Kindness off of his latest album, Fine Line. The music video features Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge and we get to see Styles dance moves. Watch it below:

I don’t know about you, but we’re glad there’s no Fine Line between Harry Styles and activism. Thank you Harry, for your music and for your continued kindness. Happy Birthday!
