The Duplass brothers are taking over your TV and your movie screens, so might as well get to know them. Last week, Mark and Jay Duplass inked a two-year deal with HBO (their show Togetherness already airs on the network) and this week it was just announced that they signed a seven-film deal with indie film distributor The Orchard. They also have a four-picture deal with Netflix. These guys are unstoppable, but they’ve managed to stay so low-key that most people still don’t know much about them. Allow us to fix that with some facts about these bro moguls (broguls?).
1. Jay is the older one.
2. They were born in New Orleans.
3. Mark starred on the FX comedy, The League, and is married to his League co-star, Katie Aselton.
4. Both Mark and Jay have guest starred as midwives on The Mindy Project.
5. Jay plays Josh on the Amazon show, Transparent.
6. They pioneered the “mumblecore” film genre, with indie flicks like 2005’s The Puffy Chair.
7. They wrote and directed Jeff, Who Lives at Home, starring Jason Segel and Ed Helms.
8. Mark starred in the 2012 indie film Safety Not Guaranteed, alongside Aubrey Plaza.
9. Mark is also a musician and was the lead singer in the indie rock band Volcano, I’m Still Excited!!
10. They’re both skilled air drummers.
