Third Eye Blind ditching traditional albums in favour of digital distribution

THIRD EYE BLIND frontman STEPHAN JENKINS has revealed the group’s upcoming album with be the last traditional record he and his bandmates will release, opting for digital distribution of their songs in the future.
The Semi-Charmed Life hitmakers will release their fifth studio album, Dopamine, next month (Jun15), and in a new interview Jenkins insists it will be the band’s last.
He tells HuffPost Live, “It’s going to be the last LP, in the sense of the standard practice of writing a bunch of songs, recording, setting up the album, all of those things.
“When I write a song, I want to post it, send it out to the universe, and it’s done. I think my process now works better with the digital tools for uploading. I’m not going to worry about ways to monetise this; I’m going to go by the happiness quotient.”
The band has become one of America’s most prolific touring acts, and Jenkins admits gigs are his main source of income.
He continues, “We used to make our living selling records, when music had value. Now, it’s presumed to be free. We’re lucky we have an audience we can engage live, and we can make records on our own terms. I think that’s very difficult for artists today.”
