This Artist Paid Tribute To Taylor Swift In The Most Brutal Way

As everyone knows by now, Kim Kardashian West  casually ended Taylor Swift’s career this past Sunday. After months of controversy surrounding the lyrics to her husband Kanye West‘s The Life of Pablo single “Famous,” in which he states “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that b*tch famous,” things between the megastars finally came to a head.

West claimed he had gotten permission from the pop icon prior to name-checking her, but Taylor denied the claim and blasted the song for its perceived misogynistic tone. After winning Album of the Year at this year’s Grammy Awards (and referencing the feud in her acceptance speech) it all looked like it was going to work out for Taylor… Until Kim leaked video footage of a phone conversation between Kanye and Taylor where she does, indeed, approve of his lyrics without reservations.

The internet thoroughly enjoyed the drama, celebrating with various hashtags, including #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty and #KimExposedTaylorParty. Many on Twitter declared Taylor Swift’s entire career dead — and with Katy Perry, Calvin Harris, Demi Lovato, and Camilla Belle all participating, it seemed it could be true.

One Australian artist, @lushsux, took this a step further, creating a public mural in Melbourne to remember the star’s career. The artwork is supposed to symbolize Swift’s metaphorical passing.

While many have already begun to speculate that Swift will take legal action against the mural, the artist has taken steps to avoid this. The name on the mural, you see, is “Taylor Smith,” not Taylor Swift, which @lushsux did specifically to avoid a defamation suit.

When if the artist was concerned about the mural being taken down, @lushsux replied, “It’s just taking the p*ss, I think the City of Melbourne won’t be the problem, it will be some ice head graffiti goon that will ruin the fun, touch wood it lasts a little bit so people can come have their fun with it and pay respects to our fallen sweet princess Tay.”

What do you think of the artwork? Is it too brutal or is a fitting tribute to a fallen pop princess?
