The Hollywood Reporter alerts us to the news of 80s teen idols Debbi Gibson and Tiffany getting cast in a new Syfy TV movie due in 2011, called Mega Python vs. Gatoroid. Hold on to your snap bracelets and your hypercolor t-shirts, everyone!
Gibson will play an animal rights activist who releases illegally imported snakes from their cages and brings them to the Everglades, where they grow to be outrageously huge non-snakes.Tiffany will play a park ranger who’s much more into risking her life to save endangered alligators. Debbi and Tiffany are supposed to get into a fight at a party hosted by Smokey Bear (wildlife joke!) but before things get really ugly they decide to take things into the swamp, which is much more suitable for them to debate (and possibly fistfight) about which animal is more important to the ecosystem.
Even though we all thought Tiffany and Debbi had spent years putting saran wrap on each other’s toilets, it turns out they’re actually quite cordial to one another. Thomas Vitale of Syfy’s creative team explained Tiffany had always wanted to work with Debbi, and they weren’t really rivals — the media just portrayed them that way, because they were doing the same thing at the same time and everything.
So who’ll come out on top? Debbi with her snakes or Tiffany with her gators?
