In the late 2000s, the broad success of the one-hour CBS drama "The Mentalist" surprised almost everyone. Thanks to the very charismatic lead performance of Simon Baker, the show has never looked back since it debuted in the fall of 2008, which is good news for Tim Kang and everyone else attached to it. Kang plays the part of a one-time juvenile delinquent who now works alongside Baker's character Patrick Jane as the crime-solving unit's most down-to-earth member. It is by far the biggest break of Kang's career, whose path prior to "The Mentalist" is a reminder of just how hard it can be for an actor of Asian-American descent to find good roles. Kang clicked into a nice five-episode run in 2004 on "Third Watch" as Detective Kent Yoshihara, and was a supporting player in Sylvester Stallone's very belated re-launch of the "Rambo" action franchise in 2008.
