Tom Bateman needed to be gagged for Wanda Sykes’ Snatched scene

British actor Tom Bateman requested a gag on the set of new comedy Snatched to prevent him from giggling throughout an improvised scene with Wanda Sykes.
The Jekyll & Hyde star portrays James, a handsome stranger who lures Amy Schumer and her onscreen mum Goldie Hawn into a kidnapping trap while on vacation in South America, and director Jonathan Levine allowed Wanda to ad lib her way through part of the shoot.
However, the comedienne’s witty quips proved to be too much for Tom to handle and he struggled to keep a straight face on camera.
“Wanda Sykes is just the funniest,” the actor told U.S. breakfast show Today. “Jonathan Levine, the director, he just said, ‘Wanda, I want you to sort of improvise a few things,’ and I don’t wanna give anything away, but I just said, ‘Listen, I think I’m gonna need sort of a gag, because I can’t stop laughing!’ (So the prop) looks like a really creative, artistic choice, but it’s just me trying to survive (the scene with Wanda).”
And it wasn’t just Wanda who had Tom cracking up – he also had a ball with Amy and Goldie, who made her first movie appearance in 15 years for Snatched.
“They’re just so fun…,” he gushed. “(Goldie) is wicked (awesome).”
However, Tom reveals Goldie’s star power left him stranded on a boat after taking an excursion to swim with the dolphins while onset in Hawaii.
“It was my first week there, and I thought I’d go swim with these dolphins early in the morning…,” he explained. “It was wonderful and then we came (sic) to come back (to land), and all of the coast had been shut down because Goldie had taken a boat out and the paparazzi went crazy, so I had to sort of sit there (on the tour boat) with seasick people throwing up off the side. Thank you very much, Goldie!”
