Tom Cruise Recalls Childhood Abuse

Hollywood star Tom Cruise vowed to be the perfect father after he was bullied by his “coward” of a dad Thomas Mapother III.

The Top Gun hunk, 43, is currently preparing for the birth of his third child–his first with fiancee Katie Holmes–any day now. He is also father to adopted children Isabella and Connor, from his 10-year marriage to Nicole Kidman.

Cruise has always played a major part in the upbringing of his two children and intends to be a devoted dad to his next child–unlike his own father, who died in 1984.

Speaking to Parade magazine, Cruise says, “He was a bully and a coward–the person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you. “It was a great lesson in my life, how he’d lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang.”

Cruise‘s mother Mary Lee left Mapother III when the actor was 12 years old and has since remarried. The actor admits he attempted to reconcile with his dad on the latter’s death bed, but unfortunately failed.

He laments, “(He) was in the hospital dying of cancer, and he would only meet me on the basis that I didn’t ask him anything about the past. “When I saw him in pain, I thought, ‘What a lonely life.’ He was in his late 40s. It was sad.”
