Tommy James invited to perform moon landing hit at 50th anniversary gala

Tommy James has been personally asked by astronaut Buzz Aldrin to perform at the 50th anniversary of the Apollo XI moon landing gala in California.
The leader of The Shondells’ hit song Crystal Blue Persuasion was a favourite of Aldrin and his crew mates as it rocketed up the U.S. charts during the summer of 1969, spending three weeks at number two, and Buzz felt it would be great to have Tommy perform the track at the event, to be held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on 13 July.
“I got the call and needless to say it was a surprise,” James’ manager Carol Ross tells WENN. “Of all the artists around, he wanted Tommy.
“Buzz met Tommy at the New Jersey Hall of Fame induction gala event two years ago when they were both inducted. I didn’t ever expect to hear from Buzz again after that, but Tommy made a great impression. Tommy is over the moon about the invitation!”
