James Brown may have sung “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” but not when it comes to American tennis. With the U.S. Open underway, I thought I’d take a look at the top five upcoming American Tennis players…and only one of them is a male. Sorry, JB.

1. Sloane Stephens

After Venus and Serena Williams retire, Stephens will take the mantle as the best American women tennis player. She’s got the skills and the confidence to do it.

2.Vavara Lepchenko

You maybe wouldn’t think that a person with this name is a U.S. citizen, but she is and she’s moving up the rankings.

3. Victoria Duval

This girl may be the victim of overhype, but she’s not in danger of becoming the next Jennifer Capriati…yet. She can seize the day.

4. Christina McHale

Another promising woman’s player. She has a lot of competition in front of her to move up the rankings, but she can do it.

5. Jack Sock

He’s only 20 and he’s already in the top 100 in the world. Most of the other American men players are in their late 20s, like John Isner, or mid -30s, like James Blake. Sock represents SOME hope for American men in this sport.
