The former Bond girl was furious after Britain’s defence minister Kevan Jones accused her of a “deathly silence” since helping to convince officials to give 36,000 Nepalese soldiers and their families the right to live in the U.K. last year (09).
Her campaign was also smeared by further accusations that lawyers at human rights firm Howe & Co had misused funds.
Lumley hit back during a press conference on Monday – and was overcome with emotion when Prime Minister Gordon Brown later called her to personally apologise for Jones’ comments.
She says, “He (Brown) told me he thought the world of what we are doing. I said the thing that smarts most is the attack on Howe & Co and he apologised unreservedly for that.”
A spokesperson for Brown confirms, “The Prime Minister said he was sorry this had happened.”
