Update: We can now add Ms. Johansson to the Betty White club of Marine Corps Ball rejections. The beauty was grateful for the invite stating, “I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams…not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for film making.” Although Scarlett can’t make it to what’s quickly turning out to be a red carpet event, she sent along a thoughtful gift to get the party started — champagne! The actress added, “Sgt. Williams, unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation.” You have to give her credit — nothing says I’m sorry like booze. Frankly, Scarlett does give a damn!
Earlier: So apparently we’re still not done beating this dead horse quite yet. Now Scarlett Johansson can be added to the ever-growing list of celebrities who are being invited to a Marine Corps Ball via web videos. This time it’s Sgt. Dustin L. Williams asking to go arm-in-arm with the gorgeous celeb. You’ve got to give him props though for putting his own unique twist and charm to video invite. The marine uses two classic songs in the video as part of his plea to the actress and says it would be “his pleasure” to spend an evening with the beauty. He also adds in a little guilt technique saying an affirmative response would boost “the morale of Marines as a whole.” So first he butters her up and then puts her on a guilt trip — nice touch. Who can say no to that?
Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake, Betty White, and Miley Cyrus have also received their own similar invites to the ball. Both Kunis and Timberlake plan on attending. So what’s it going to be Scarlett – yes or no? (now can we finally put this whole thing to bed?) Anymore invites and there will be talk of starting a reality show.
